wire fishing toolA wire fishing tool is not for landing a Largemouth Bass, it is for feeding a leader and wire through the wall. It has a magnetic tip to keep the wires from coming loose. Without this tool, getting wires to thread behind a wall would be a daunting task. Most come with a handy carrying which keeps them from tangling.

cable caddyA cable caddy is an absolutely brilliant invention. Working like a toilet paper roll holder, it keeps spools of wire from ending up everywhere. Cable caddy’s can hold spools of wire in a variety of sizes. And, since they have wheels the wire can come into the site with you. This eliminates having to run to the truck for a different grade of wire. Some are even designed like hand trucks, making them even more moveable.

aluminum conductive security foilEvery alarm installer should be familiar with aluminum conductive security foil. This is a pressure sensitive tape that alerts the rest of the security system if windows or doors have been unexpectedly breached. When the tape is broken it creates an easily readable open circuit. The newer versions are all lead free to provide consumer safety from lead exposure.

door annunciator systemAs opposed to the traditional blaring alarm, a door annunciator system emits a chime when one of its infrared beams is disrupted. Many have a 40 ft range and have different chimes available. This should not replace the heavy duty, loud, wake you from a dead sleep type alarms, but work as a great daytime addition. They also work great in business settings.

security panelThe security panels of the past have come a long way from what they once were. Some of the newer features have voice dialing, which is great when someone cannot reach the phone. Many security panels offer their own power supply, which is able to run the system for several hours. Some will even automatically call for help if power is lost to the unit.

voice systemThe voice system has carried into the driveway. With voice alert driveway systems, the owner of the property can choose messages to be played. Up to six can be played, so the warnings can change as an intruder gets closer. A simple, “This is private property, turn around” is suitable for lost tourists. The warnings can get more serious if the intruder continues.

Technology is constantly advancing, this keeps the field of security installation cutting edge by definition. There is a calling to create better and better systems. Much of the technology which is installed today, will be obsolete in a few years. Staying on top of what the next big thing is going to be sets one alarm installation company or individual apart from the rest.
