Basic Purpose

Provide 24×7 technical support and monitor Navy Federal’s enterprise systems and networks to ensure continuous availability.  Ensure the stability and integrity of network services by troubleshooting, escalating, and resolving incidents and problems when detected.  Interface with vendors and ensure appropriate resolution during system outages or periods of reduced performance.

Responsibilities:

•    Identify trends and monitor network performance and availability
•    Utilize multiple monitoring applications to ensure optimal system performance – like HP BSM and SolarWinds
•    Respond to alerts and alarms, identifies and corrects problems
•    Create and work on tickets in an IT Service Management application; monitor ticket queues
•    Troubleshoot and escalate incidents and problems
•    Interface with other ISD areas and/or vendors to resolve enterprise system outages or periods of reduced performance, in accordance with established criteria 
•    Contact global vendors or contractors (telephone carriers, equipment/service providers) and work with them in combined troubleshooting efforts to restore/provide service.
•    Support the development and execution of plans for modifications to operational networks and components that minimize disruptions
•    Work with others to update and document technical procedures
•    Provide status reports on active or resolved problems
•    Follows established policies, procedures and guidelines
•    Maintains peripheral equipment
•    Monitors status of data communications, network operations, data storage, and integrated application-software packages -Resolves moderately complex problems
•    Monitors and operates enterprise system to maintain availability of all hardware and availability of all software applications
•    Maintain, configure, and perform preventative maintenance to various network equipment – switches, routers, firewalls
•    Maintain inventory control documentation on systems and components to ensure updates occur according to schedule and procedure
•    Perform other related duties as assigned
•    May be assigned to other tasks based on need

Qualifications – knowledge, skills, and abilities:

•    Basic knowledge of enterprise system, network knowledge and terminology
•    Knowledge of LAN/WAN topologies, protocols, and standards to include but not limited to:  T1, T3, Metro Ethernet, Frame Relay, TCP/IP, SDLC, RS232, BGP
•    Experience in administrative or technical positions that demonstrates the ability to interpret and follow, policies, procedures, and instructions
•    Experience that demonstrates dependability, productivity, and accuracy
•    Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills 
•    Effective verbal and written communication skills 
•    Knowledge of Service Management Tools and the ability to open, resolve, and document incident tickets 
•    Ability to work independently and as part of a team
•    Ability to work under pressure (urgent problems, deadlines, changing priorities)
•    Experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of enterprise systems to include data communications, network operations, data storage, and integrated application-software packages 
•    Demonstrated skill in resolving system and network problems using test and diagnostic equipment 
•    Demonstrated knowledge and skill of cable plant standards to include Category 5E/6 twisted pair and Fiber Optic
•    Working knowledge of enterprise system monitoring tools
•    Experience in data communications which includes installing and maintaining routers, switches, CSU/DSUs, servers, personal computers and carrier T1/T3 services
•    Experience that demonstrates strong proficiency in operating in an enterprise systems environment that includes data communications, network operations, data storage, integrated application-software packages

Desired:
•    Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or the equivalent combination of training, education, and experience
•    CCNA or CCNP certifications
•    In-depth experience and technical training in WAN/LAN communications including experience installing, configuring and maintaining Cisco routers and switches
•    Experience in presenting technical solutions and/or recommendations
•    Knowledge of electronic principles as they relate to diagnosing and troubleshooting IT system issues
•    Knowledge of technical inter-relationships between software/hardware and desktop/LAN/Host systems
•    Advanced skill in diagnosing and troubleshooting issues
•    Advanced research, analytical, and problem solving skills
•    Knowledge of Navy Federal operations

Hours:
6:00PM-6:00AM rotating shift including weekends and holidays
Week 1:  Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday
Week 2: Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday
